Hamburg Hauptbahnhof

This photograph as taken in Hamburg mid 1990s and developed in a public darkroom also in Hamburg. The image is of a man in a dark coat with his back to the camera, below are some tracks with waiting trains. The Hauptbhanhof in Hamburg is huge but also compact compared to the sprawling stations of the UK.  There is a large advert for Philips in the window at the back which was still there the last time I visited Hamburg. The image is printed on an ancient oyster shell that was mudlarked from the Thames foreshore near London Bridge. The shell has seen some damage and layers have flaked off over time. This leads to an differentiation in the way the emulsion sticks to the shell giving different surfaces and textures.
