Photographs are objects that are packed with meaning and nothingness. Looking at this photograph in 1977 you’d have seen what? Looking at it in 2020, what’s it look like now? Ariella Azoulay taught me a thing or two about images and how the viewer is part of the image too. I also know that as a viewer, I’m changing too. In 1976 I would have said it is a photo of my family getting ready to celebrate my grandmother’s 80th Birthday. At a later date I would have titled it “The foothills of tragedy”, at other times “Shelob”, currently it’s called “This Much I know”.
