I think people who don’t like fairs are weird and yet fairs are disruptive, slippery, untrustworthy things, they appear, they perform and then they are gone so it makes sense not to trust them. They are the last part of a personalised relationship with entertainment and mischief, the tag end of the troubadours and player troupes. A place where you can mingle will all kinds, but keep your mind on your bag and wallet, they are for everybody.
Another thing I love about fairs is they are the same everywhere more or less. They are fundamentally machines that make happiness. And fear.
